Petrin Hill

Prague hotels

Pertin Hill is one of the main parks in the city of Prague, located in lesser town and also one of the best vantage points to take in views of this beautiful city. On the hill travelers come to chill out and check out the unique attractions like the TV Tower which is a miniature replica of the Eifel Tower and makes for an interesting photo opportunity. You can either take the funicular to the top the hill or be adventurous and hike the steep hill. There is a statue of Karel Hynek Macha, the Czech poet. Lovers will often meet here at the statue on the "day of love", which occurs on May 1 st in the Czech Republic. This tradition and the corresponding statue add to the areas charm as a location where love is in the air and natural beauty abounds. This area was in fact the location that former King Charles vineyards once existed and has remained relatively untarnished by modernization of the city.

This is a great little daytrip located nearby the city and there are activities for all ages to enjoy upon arriving here. Do plan on budgeting a half day here and take your time enjoying the lush green surroundings and serenity that this beautiful environment provides.

For those who choose to take the funicular, it is open from April to October from 9AM to 11:30PM and from November through March from 9AM through 10:20PM. You can take tram lines 6, 9, 12, 20, 22 or 23 and get off on the ujezd stop. Remember that there are two stops and to get off at the top of the hill which is the second stop. There is a mirror maze here, similar to a "house of mirrors" which provides a confusing, distorting and unquestionably fun attraction for both children and adults to enjoy.

The Petrin Tower is the main attraction here and visitors can make the ascent up the towers stairs for some amazing views of the surrounding areas. While the tower may be the main reason for coming to Petrin Hill, visitors should make a point to enjoy the lush green natural surroundings by traveling a bit off the beaten tourist trail. A journey through the beautiful and pungent rose gardens is a welcome reprieve from the busy and crowded city streets and this is an activity that can be enjoyed in a half hour or so. After that, if you are now enthralled in the gorgeous green surroundings that Prague offers in the summer months, head down one of the trails on a short Hike to Prague Castle or the Strahov Monastery. These are a downhill short walk and while they may not test your endurance, they will provide you with a nice journey scenic journey to these storybook attractions. This is definitely a place you will want to see if you are a nature lover and when in Prague this is without question one of the top parks to stop by.
