The Wax Museum Prague

Prague hotels

The Wax Museum in Prague is an interestingplace to come explore the history of the city and the region through the Wax sculptures that emulate important figures from the past. There are now two locations both located nearby old town square that can be explored and each of them are open from 9AM to 8PM daily. The World and Czech Celebrities Museum now hosts more than 50 wax figures of important Czech and International figures from the 19 th through 21 st century. The Czech History portion of the Wax museum featured the most important figures throughout Czech history idolized in life size wax sculptures.

The museum came into existence in 1997 and was put together by Czech artists, architects and designers and what results is a fun and interesting 30 minute exhibit that makes for a fun exploration into Czech History. It is a bit eerie with how lifelike many of these sculptures are and in the International museum visitors can even find figures of Elvis and Winston Churchill reincarnated in Wax. Some recent additions to the museum includeLuis Armstrong, Bill Clinton, Tina Turner, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Alfons Mucha, Bozena Nemcova, Bedrich Smetana, Antonin Dvorak, Ema Destinnova, Mick Jagger and Dalajlama. . Other important prominent figures that are features include King Charles IV, Rudolph II, Franz Kafka, Vaclav Klaus, Rasputin, Albert Einstein, Lady Diana and Charlie Chaplin as well as dictators like Lenin, Stalin, Klemet Gottwald (Czech's grown Satlinist), Chruschtschov, Breschnev, Mao Tse-Tung and Fidel Castro.

The museum was moved into its current set up and locations in 2003 and has become a top attraction nearby Old Town Square. This is a fun an interesting way to see these important figures and see the attention to detail that has created such lifelike sculptures. One nice feature of this museum is that you can by one ticket that will provide you entry to both portions of the museum in its two separate locations. What has resulted is a very interesting and rather lighthearted attraction that visitors can stop in and explore to break up the monotony of a long day of sightseeing when in Prague. Located on Melantrichova Street, the International Celebrity exhibit is a favorite among visitors looking to come and snap photos next to some of their most idolized celebrities.

The Czech History attraction is located on Mostecka Street and is a more serious attraction that displays the figures from throughout Czech History. This is one of the few places where one can step back in time and see the life sized models of some of the most important figures in the history of this country in lifelike form. While there are statues or sculptures of many of these figures in other places, the wax sculptures have a way of bringing these figures to life. Both of these locations are great attractions and a worthwhile exhibit to see when you are in Old Town Prague. Set aside and hour or so and you will get your fill of this unique museum.
