Tyn Church in Prague is one of the top churches to come explore within the city, towering over Old Town Prague. The current church was erected in the 14 th and 15 th century in its beautiful late Gothic style which is easily seen from many places throughout Prague as its towers are over 80 meters in height. Though completed for the first time in the 15 th century, the church has undergone renovations many different times in its history and the interior is even still being renovated today.
Located right in Old Town Square, Tyn Church is a dominating presence in the city and is a great place to come and see as it is located nearby so many other important attractions. Though the church was originally constructed in Romanesque style in the 11 th century and became officially Tyn Church in 1256 being rebuilt in Gothic style, the current structure that we see today was constructed in the 14 th and 15 th century. Interior restoration efforts are still currently ongoing and the major restoration efforts that took place between 1973 and 1995. There are two towers rising high above the neighboring buildings and while similar, they are not symmetrical. It is said that one side is the masculine side and the other feminine, representing the male and female sides that make up a traditional family.
While this site stretches back far in time as the location of a religious site, the actual site has been host to three different churches as the prior churches have been destroyed over time. When coming to Prague, there is no question that this important sight should be on your short list of top attractions to see. Located in Old Town Square, there is no way you can not notice its intimidating presence and gorgeous gothic architecture.
